Development Of Jigarthanda Movie :-

In April 2013, news broke that Siddharth would star in a Tamil film directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the talent behind the hit Pizza. S. Kathiresan, busy with Dhanush's Naiyaandi, would produce it under Five Star Films. Later, Karthik revealed it would be a bilingual project, but it ended up being filmed in Tamil and later dubbed into Telugu as Chikkadu Dorakadu, sharing the title with movies from 1967 and 1988.

Interestingly, the Telugu version had Vennelakanti writing the dialogues, and the setting changed to Kurnool instead of Madurai. Karthik, in an interview with The Hindu, shared that Jigarthanda was initially meant to be his directorial debut. He infused his Madurai experiences into the film, giving it a personal touch.

Jigarthanda Movie Casting :-

In May 2013, Lakshmi Menon shared exciting news that she'd join the film alongside Siddharth. Their on-screen pairing was revealed. Lakshmi's role was later unveiled as an idli seller, and she shared, I put in a lot of effort for my role. Before shooting, I visited idli shops in Madurai to get into character. It's interesting to portray such realistic roles.

By mid-July 2013, rumors buzzed that Vijay Sethupathi might be the antagonist. However, Vijay dismissed the reports, clarifying he'd only do a cameo if Karthik could fit it into his schedule. It was also reported that Siddharth would play an aspiring filmmaker, possibly directing Vijay Sethupathi in the film Pannaiyarum Padminiyum.

Jigarthanda Movie Release Date :-

At the end of April, there were reports suggesting the film might hit theaters in the third week of May. Early May brought news that the worldwide release was set for May 23, 2014. Initially, it was thought that Sun Pictures would handle distribution, but this turned out to be untrue. There were also talks about adjusting the release date because Rajinikanth's Kochadaiiyaan was set for a big worldwide release on the same day.

The film received a U/A certificate from the Indian Censor Board due to its intense scenes. However, producer Kathiresan preferred a U certificate to ease satellite rights sales, which required toning down violent scenes. Karthik Subbaraj resisted this idea, leading to a delay in the film's release. After reaching a compromise, where no cuts were made, and the film retained its U/A certificate, the release date was finally settled for July 25, 2014. However, it was pushed back by another week before eventually hitting theaters on August 1, 2014.
