Joker: Folie à Deux Development  :-

"Joker" (2019) was initially designed to stand alone, without any plans for sequels. However, Warner Bros. had a different vision—they aimed to use it as the launchpad for DC Black, a series of films rooted in DC Comics but unrelated to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). These films would explore darker, more experimental content, akin to the DC Black Label comics.

Director Todd Phillips, in August 2019, expressed his interest in a sequel, dependent on the first film's success and Joaquin Phoenix's willingness to return. Yet, he later clarified that the movie wasn't crafted with a sequel in mind. It was conceived as a standalone piece, and that was the original plan.

In October 2019, Joaquin Phoenix hinted at the possibility of reprising the role of Arthur. When asked by a journalist about the character being his "dream role," Phoenix admitted he couldn't stop thinking about it. He pondered on the potential of exploring more facets of the Joker, even though it wasn't something he initially desired before working on the movie. The possibilities seemed endless, and he was open to the idea of delving further into the character.

As a testament to the film's success, Joaquin Phoenix was paid a substantial $20 million for his involvement, reflecting the impact of his portrayal of the iconic character. The future of the Joker's story remained uncertain but filled with intriguing possibilities.

Joker: Folie à Deux Casting :-

In a twist of fate, it was revealed in the same month that Lady Gaga was in discussions to take on the iconic role of Harley Quinn, with an unexpected musical element thrown into the mix. Gaga later officially confirmed her involvement in the project during the summer, adding a unique flair to the upcoming film.

August brought more surprises, with reports of Zazie Beetz in talks to reprise her role as Sophie Dumond. Confirming the speculations, Beetz officially joined the cast the following month. Joining her were new additions to the ensemble: Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland. Gleeson, drawn by admiration for Joaquin Phoenix's "indelible" performance in the first film and Lady Gaga, confessed to feeling "kinda intimidated" by the challenge of his role. October saw another noteworthy addition, with Harry Lawtey stepping into what Deadline Hollywood touted as a "big role."

By February 2023, James Gunn, the CEO of DC Studios, dropped a bombshell, confirming that "Folie à Deux" would be a DC Elseworlds project. This meant it would unfold outside the boundaries of the main cinematic DC Universe, promising a unique and distinct narrative. And the surprises didn't end there – in May 2023, it was announced that Harvey Dent would make an appearance in the film, adding another layer of anticipation to this already intriguing cinematic creation.
